Eighteen CIRs have been held in five US states to date, including seven CIRs under Oregon’s official statewide program, authorized by statute in 2011. The Initiative Reviews have proven to be extremely useful to voters. Research funded by the National Science Foundation, Kettering Foundation and others looking at the impact of multiple CIRs in multiple states has shown that voters find them helpful, are more likely to vote, are better informed about the initiative, and have more confidence in government as a result.
